Railway Traveling Documents
A traveling document gives right to a passenger to use domestic and international railway communications from the departure station to the destination point according to the route stated in the ticket. For the journey in a sleeping-car and in a car with reserved seats every passenger, in addition to the ticket, must have a berth ticket (platzkarta) for occupying the corresponding berth/seat (in domestic and inter-state* communication the ticket and the berth ticket are executed on one blank).
- A traveling document for a domestic trip is valid throughout the entire journey of the train or carriage.
- According to the rules of international rail communications a one-way ticket is valid for 2 months, and a return ticket is valid for 4 months. The berth ticket is valid throughout the entire journey of the train or carriage as in the inner communication.
- Traveling documents are considered invalid with any corrections made by the passenger.
- Lost tickets are not refunded.
- Unused ticket refunding is done upon claim.
The cost of a traveling document consists of the ticket and the berth ticket cost. A ticket is a document that gives the right to travel from the departure point to the destination point according to the fixed route, and its cost depends straightly on the distance. A berth ticket gives a passenger the right to occupy a certain seat/bed in a certain train and carriage. Its cost depends on many parameters, like train category, carriage category, train rating, length of the trip, availability of extra services.
